Changan has officially launched the Nevo Hunter REEV in Pakistan, marking the company’s entry into the country’s pickup truck market with a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV).

The mid-size pickup was previously showcased in Pakistan as the Deepal K50 Hunter at the PAPS event last year. It is now being introduced locally under Changan’s Nevo sub-brand.

The Nevo Hunter stands out from conventional pickups because its wheels are powered entirely by electric motors, while its petrol engine works as a generator to recharge the battery. Changan describes it as the world’s first mass-produced REEV pickup truck.

Nevo Hunter REEV performance

The pickup is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates electricity for its battery. The truck uses two electric motors, one on each axle, providing a 4×4 drivetrain.

The setup produces 322 horsepower and 529 Nm of torque, with Changan claiming a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.9 seconds.

The Nevo Hunter comes with a 31.18 kWh LFP battery, offering a claimed pure-electric range of 131 km under the NEDC cycle. With a full battery and its 70-litre fuel tank, the combined range is claimed to be between 700 and 900 km.

It supports DC fast charging from 30% to 80% in around 30 minutes, while a full AC charge takes approximately 5.6 hours. The vehicle also offers 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality.

Nevo Hunter REEV off-road capabilities

The Nevo Hunter has been developed for more than just city driving. It uses a high-strength ladder-frame, body-on-frame chassis and comes with selectable 2H, 4H and 4L drive modes.

The pickup offers 220 mm of ground clearance, a 29-degree approach angle and a 26-degree departure angle. Its claimed wading depth is 600 mm, while payload capacity stands at 1,010 kg and towing capacity at 2,500 kg.

It also features electronically locking front and rear differentials, allowing the truck to maintain traction when individual wheels lose grip.

Drivers can choose from several terrain modes, including:

  • Snow
  • Mud
  • Sand
  • Creep
  • Off-Road

Other off-road features include Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, Active Yaw Control and an underbody camera.

The dual electric motors provide instant torque, which should make the Nevo Hunter capable of handling steep climbs, loose surfaces and heavy loads.

Exterior design

Changan has given the Nevo Hunter a rugged and aggressive appearance, with its front-end design inspired by a leopard-like hunting animal.

The pickup features a body-colour grille, matte-black exterior elements, black wheel-arch cladding, side steps and an upright front profile.

The truck measures 5,380 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width and 1,875 mm in height.

It comes with LED headlights and taillights, dynamic LED daytime running lights, roof rails, electrically adjustable and heated side mirrors, front and rear fog lamps, a front skid plate and steel underbody protection.

The pickup also gets an approximately 1,590 × 1,580 × 490 mm cargo bed with a hydraulic-assisted tailgate and four cargo hooks.

Interior and features

Inside, the Nevo Hunter REEV has a more modern SUV-like cabin than a traditional pickup truck.

The cabin features a dual-tone interior with beige seats and lower dashboard sections combined with black upper surfaces and door panels.

The front seats use perforated synthetic or microfiber leather and offer ventilation. The driver’s seat has six-way electric adjustment, while the front passenger seat gets four-way adjustment.

A 12.3-inch infotainment screen is paired with a 7.5-inch digital instrument display. The vehicle also offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, a six-speaker audio system and rear AC vents.

Other features include keyless entry, push-button start, automatic climate control, a multifunction steering wheel, physical shortcut buttons and a 60:40 split-folding rear seat.

Safety features

The Nevo Hunter comes equipped with six airbags and a range of active and passive safety features.

Key safety equipment includes:

  • ABS and EBD
  • Electronic Stability Program
  • Traction control
  • Six airbags
  • Hill Start Assist
  • Hill Descent Control
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • 360-degree camera
  • Transparent chassis view
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System

The pickup does not come with a full ADAS package, although it does feature Lane Departure Warning.
